Just outside the Nation's Oldest City lies the city's
oldest continually operating attraction. A fully accredited American Zoo
& Aquarium Association facility, the St Augustine Alligator Farm &
Zoological Park offers something for everybody. The attractive animal park
houses a number of rare animals, but is also the only zoo in the world where
all 23 species of crocodiles and alligators are represented. The complete
collection is rounded out by the Farm's two rare, pure-white alligators.
Visitors can stroll the Farm's grounds and see alligators almost everywhere
- and don't miss the alligator feeding shows.
The
natural wading bird rookery attracts birds from miles around, and is a popular
place for nesting. This rookery has been called "the best natural rookery
on the East Coast" by environmentalists and photographers alike. In
spring, the trees are heavy with nests, and a wooden boardwalk winds through
the nesting area, allowing visitors up-close viewing of nests and new chicks*.
The rookery provides a perfect educational experience in the balance of
nature: birds choose the swamp for nest-building because the alligators
below help keep predators from the area. April, May
& June are excellent times to visit the St Augustine Alligator Farm
& Zoological Park to see the new chicks and fledglings.
*Please do not disturb nests or chicks!!!

The St Augustine Alligator Farm has distinguished itself
by successfully combining species in its natural exhibits. Housed with compatible
species, the animals happily go about their lives just as they would in
their natural environment. A dedicated group of keepers, who really enjoy
what they do, provide first-class care and lots of attention to the Farm's
residents. The result is a happy group of animals and humans who share a
beautiful little piece of the oldest continually occupied settlement in
the nation. The Farm staff works as a group to create an environment where
happy animals are more than just exhibits - they are teachers. Children
and adults alike leave the farm with a new understanding of animals, conservation
and our planet.

![]() Gomek Forever!!! |
In 1997, The St Augustine Alligator Farm & Zoological
Park sadly said goodbye to St Augustine's beloved Gomek - the almost-18-foot-long
saltwater crocodile from New Guinea. Captured as an adult in New Guinea
in 1968, Gomek arrived in St Augustine in 1990 as an already mature crocodile.
During the seven years that he lived in St Augustine, many of us became
very attached to him, and were quite sad when he left us. Gomek is now perfectly
and respectfully displayed near his old habitat in a climate-controlled
building. Visitors can still see him in all his magnificence, along with
a pictoral documentary of his life and his arrival at the Farm. Like the
other animals at the Farm, the huge and beautiful old crocodile is still
very much the teacher.
October 2003: Big plans are in the works at the Farm... check this page
frequently to see what's new!
The St Augustine Alligator Farm & Zoological Park is open every day
from 9-5; extended summer hours are 9-6. The Farm is stroller-friendly and
wheelchair-accessible, and a snack bar & restrooms are located at the
center of the park. Picnic tables are located near the south end, and provide
a welcome place to snack and relax. Wildlife shows are given every hour
from 10-5. Take the family and the camera, and spend an afternoon at the
St Augustine Alligator Farm & Zoological Park!
