Azalea's Cafe' - Fear No Garlic!

Tucked away on historic old Aviles Street (along with a number of other treasures) is a small cafe called Azalea's. Here you will find one of the most unique menus in the old city, along with plenty of atmosphere and the best food at the south end.

Azalea's Cafe' is a great favorite of visitors and locals alike. Breakfast is served all day, along with wonderful and unusual lunch dishes from around the world. Owner & chef Sandy Krebs is a cook of extraordinary talents!

My personal favorite is Sandy's Carrot Cake - and I won't even try to describe it; it's something everyone has to experience for themselves! But - just so you know how good this Carrot Cake really is - forget chocolate. Don't get between me and Sandy's Carrot Cake.

My other favorite is the Tomato-Basil Bisque. Again - you have to experience for yourself just how yummy this soup is. Thick and rich and tomatoey, with plenty of fresh chopped basil swimming it it, served with garlic bread... yummy! A bowl of Tomato Bisque and one of Sandy's good Greek salads and I am set for lunch.

And Sandy's homemade pesto... when Azalea's closed for vacation, we were ready to send out a posse - we were all in serious pesto withdrawal! Fortunately, the cafe reopened just in time, and Sandy provided much-needed pesto to the starving masses on Aviles Street! In fact - that's what my husband got from me as our 19th wedding anniversary gift... a jar of Sandy's homemade pesto. Hey - he was happy! Try Sandy's pesto on a Cheddar-Jalapeno bagel - awesome!!!
